subject: A Clear Alternative To Traditional Orthodontics: Invisalign Invisible Braces [print this page]

Braces are a very common form of cosmetic dentistry and it is not uncommon to see teens and young adults wearing them. After all, braces are very visible and when they are on someones teeth you simply cannot miss them. But what if there was another way? What if there was something that could take the place of braces and that you would feel much more comfortable wearing? Well, there is. Its called Invisalign.

Invisalign is a method of aligning and straightening teeth without the use of metal braces. Your orthodontist will take an impression of your teeth in their current position and then use a computer program to map out a series of retainers that will slowly shift your teeth to the desired position. Each retainer will be custom-made and each will be worn for two weeks. They are worn 24 hours a day, except when you are eating.

The benefits of Invisalign are plenty. They are not visible, so that means that when you are wearing the retainer all people see is your natural smile, which will change over a few months as your teeth become aligned. The Invisalign system takes the same amount of time as traditional braces, so you dont have to wear them longer. Dental hygiene is also much easier with Invisalign than with traditional braces. It has always been difficult for people to clean their teeth properly while wearing braces, but the Invisalign retainers come out so people can brush and floss as they normally would.

People may feel a slight bit of discomfort when they switch to a new retainer, but this will pass quickly and is no worse than the discomfort felt when braces are tightened. Of course, the Invisalign system costs more than traditional braces, but many people feel that this is worth it, especially adults who would rather not wear metal braces. If you need the help of braces, discuss Invisalign with your orthodontist. This might make the next two years of your life thoroughly enjoyable without the irritation of having to deal with braces.
