I hope that this is not going to be the beginning of a new trend but I am 99% sure that it will nevertheless. I have noticed that al-Qaeda seems to be trying very hard to send terrorists to the United States to conduct attacks on American soil. This trend is disturbing because sooner or later they might be able to slip one through. If we dont want that to happen we must remain vigilant.
As I write this article I am thinking about the attempted Christmas day bombing, the failed attempt to bomb the subway system in New York City and the failed attempt to bomb Times Square recently.
We as citizens of this country have been so well protected that we have been like the Ostrich with our head stuck in a hole. We cant depend on our government to protect us all of the time. If we are to remain free from terrorist attacks we must remain vigilant. Each one of these attempts to harm innocent American citizens were narrowly avoided and could have very easily gone the other way. We may not be so lucky the next time. We must remain vigilant and help our government to protect us. We must be alert to anything that we see which is out of place or out of character.
The beauty of the war on terror so far for Americans has been that almost all of the action has taken place in other countries. Americans have not had to live with all of the carnage associated with this war. This war is not resulting in the loss of the lives of our wives and children. Enemy combatants have been traveling to Iraq, and Afghanistan to fight American servicemen and women who are well trained with superior equipment. Enemy combatants are even leaving this country to go overseas and fight insurgents. Errant bombs have not been destroying our homes and businesses.
American servicemen and women can tell you of the conditions in many of the countries that they serve in. The average American citizen lives a much better lifestyle than the average citizen of any other country. There are many countries where a rotten tomato and a scrap of bread would be considered an excellent meal.
Al-Qaeda seems to be figuring out the fact that they need to hit closer to home and they seem to be actively recruiting more operatives to send to the United States to conduct terror operations. If we can continue to thwart all of their terror attempts they will eventually stop but it will take sustained vigilant action on our part.
Our custom military ring customers serving overseas have done a wonderful job of shielding us from the danger, but now time has come for us to be extra careful. We cant take the easy life for granted. There are countries where the population knows nothing other than war. We have been blessed and many of us do not realize it.
