subject: This Business About Trying To Be Green Can Be Complicated [print this page]

People seem to worry a lot about decorating and using color in their homes.

But you might find the perfect colors to make you happy walking through nature or a garden.

This morning we were walking past a neighbors house. He had one of Natures most spectacular color displays growing in weeds (?) in his lawn. The dandelions and violets were blooming beautifully. That wonderful combination of bright yellow and purple/blue blooming in profusion looks great together. It also looks great with green.

And greens always work great with rose, red and orange, too.

Another great color combination in Nature is icy blue/green or aqua with white like snow or the creamy/tan color of a tropical sandy beach.

And all the color combinations you find in Nature can work for you in your own home environment, too.

I live in the mountains but I love the beach, too. But my skin just cant handle the sun we experience at the beach. But my little mountain house has the watery colors from the beach like pale blue and teal with white, along with the rich wood tones of oak, pine and cedar.

Any homeowner can have a garden border or Scandinavian snow scene. You can have an Italian villa and garden, too. Or you can have a French kitchen garden.

Its all up to you and your own vision of how you want to live and what colors you want around you.

And some of us like a lot of color, too

My favorite accent colors are always burgundy red, emerald green, topaz or sapphire or cobalt blue like the jewel tones of the whole range of natural gemstones.

Its fun to choose color that compliments your skin tones and eye and hair color, too, especially in your bedroom. Whatever color you choose should make you beautiful, especially in your most intimate space.

And be sure to bring more than a hint of luxury and comfort to all your spaces. One of my favorite fabrics is velvet for upholstery or drapery because it feels warm and luxurious on a winters evening spent by the fireplace. I usually change dcor with the seasons, too, which offers more opportunities for color.

If what you choose brings you pleasure it is so much fun. Your home needs to be a comfortable sanctuary where you have pleasure and live and spend time with people who are important to you.

Color that makes you happy is part of it. Make the choices that make you happy. Change them any time you want and have all the fun you can, designing Natures way with lots of color.
