subject: The Importance Of Micro Sd [print this page]

A format of the removable flash memory cards is the micro sd. SD is commonly used as an acronym for Secure Digital. This nature of cards are used commonly in cellular phones, hand held GPS devices, portable media player, digital audio players, expandable USB flash memory drives, Nintendo DS flash charts and digital cameras.

The micro sd is considered the smallest commercially available memory card. This is commercially available at 15mm x 11mm x 1mm, which incidentally is just about the size of a fingernail. The size of these micro cards is roughly one quarter of the size of an SD card. Adapters have been made to facilitate the usage of micro sd instead of an SD card. Adapters also allow usage of micro sd for devices to be run on mini SD, Memory Stick Duo and even the USB cards.

Customers are often confused between the differences in a micro sd and a micro sdhc format. There exist some similarity between the two but all devices cannot be run with the help of a micro sdhc as they may not be compatible (secure digital high capacity). It may be noted that after usage of third party firmware, SDHC reading capabilities can be possible.

The capacities in which micro sd are currently available are on capacity of 64 MB to 32 GB. In olden times, the Trans flash cards were available in 16 MB and 32 MB formats.

San Disk created the micro sd format. Other formats of the flash cards included mini SD and SD cards which were approved by the SD Cards Association.
