There is also a part of me that feels cautious about anything that messes with your body by intentionally causing you to do things in a way you wouldn't naturally do it (i.e. using muscles you wouldn't naturally use for stability because your shoes are unbalanced). I do not know that this will cause any long term problems, but having had my own struggles with joint pain and back problems I am hesitant to jump in head first before seeing some supporting data.
