Ideally, you should attempt to work with the material for a little time every day (at least 30 min - 1 hr a day). The lessons are engineered to build on each other. Because of this, being consistent is crucial.
Learning a language is alot like learning to ride a bike. For the first 6 or 7 lessons you might think that you are not getting anywhere. If you persist, however, you will hit a point where things suddenly come together. You will find yourself creating sentences without effort and hearing most of the words in the audio recordings.
Then you can move on to learning more advanced grammer and vocabulary.

Some students find it hard to focus if there is no outside pressure such as an upcoming "exam" or an instructor checking their "homework".

If you think you might need the pressure of a class setting in order to take action, look into classes at a local college. Remember, however, that a class will cost more and can take longer.
