subject: Appliance Manufacturer Puts Faith In Composite Doors To Improve Durability [print this page]

A spokesman for the manufacturer, Godrej & Boyce, said it discovered the potential of composite doors when it was examining ways of helping ensure that its appliances gave their users longer periods of trouble-free use.

One problem it found was widespread with the old designs was that water tended to seep into the steel doors whenever customers wiped their fridges with a damp cloth. Over time, this allowed corrosion to set in. So the company decided to switch to using composite doors and this has reduced corrosion problems to such a degree that every fridge or freezer Godrej & Boyce makes now comes with a full 10-year warranty against the development of rust.

And as a bonus to customers, the company can now also offer them appliances in a far wide choice of colours, and with individual designs and graphics to allow them to be personalised. Testing also revealed another advantage of the use of composite doors over their steel equivalents that they were far more resistant to dents. This has meant that the fridges can be supplied in see-through packaging when they are delivered to customers so that all the neighbours can see what is being delivered!

The adoption of composite doors for use in heavily-used domestic appliances is a natural extension of their use for the manufacture of doors and windows. Here too, they make good use of the fact that they are far more durable than uPVC designs, meaning that they need replacing far less often.

There is also the major advantage that customers arent restricted when buying composite doors and windows in respect of the colours they can choose. Composite surfaces look good and stay that way in a massive range of shades, allowing buyers to be individual when picking their new doors. And a final benefit for any composite surfaces around the home is that they are very easy to keep clean so they stay looking beautiful in even the most hard-working environments.
