Since humankind has been around, we have looked upon the night's sky over-head and speculated on its numerous mysteries. As a matter of fact, astrology and astrologers has been here for a lot longer than when time was created/recorded. The earliest certified birth chart was discovered in Iraq and is attributed to have been created around 410 BC. A birth chart is different for each person, giving them the ability to track the planet's influences which impact on our place of origin and time of birth. Each birth chart is totally unique, just like our fingerprints.
Astrology is about the study of cycles, patterns and relationships of the planets in movements. We link these into our birth. Since astrology considers individuals to be part of the wider cosmos, it instructs that the moment of birth is then registered onto the celestial clock, giving each person's life meaning and direction. The most common and favorite astrological sign is the zodiac (star) sign. This is the easiest form of astrology, also referred to as the sun sign, and it only needs a person's date of birth. Even so, as many astrologers will tell you, simply the sun (zodiac) sign alone will produce limited results. Therefore other techniques such as birth charts and analyzing the continuous movement of the planets are used for larger accuracy.
Astrology is primarily used by individuals who want to understand more about themselves. The cosmic chart uses symbols which carry a great power, therefore they can be used to understand anything from a person's personality to their relationship with others (and of course much more). It might seem incomprehensible at first but as you delve further, certain things begin to snap into place and make good sense. Some may think that life is a random and meaningless road but the astrologer gets comfort from the knowledge that things occur for a reason. As the planets follow a cycle, the same is true for our lives. Naturally, it is simpler to study the cycles of the planets compared to a human being, since it is much more complicated. But despite this, it is evidently still worth trying to understand our nature by analyzing ourselves via the planets. This then provides for us to make predictions which will guide us to succeed instead of failing.
Astrology can give us meaning when we argue with certain people we come across. If we compare our birth charts with other people's birth charts we can start to realize where and why our personalities may conflict with people around us.
Obviously astrology can not predict the future, but it is really useful in helping us through the future and helping us to understand our past and present too. A popular metaphor is to imagine being given a certain hand of cards. Astrology can help you play your cards in a way that will benefit you most. If you are handed a brilliant set of cards but then - via ignorance - play them badly, things in life probably won't turn out well. Just as if you are given a poor hand but know how to use your cards you could win big!
