subject: Nail Biting Cures And Fishing Lures. What Do They Have In Common? [print this page]

What do nail biting cures and fishing lures have in common? Far more than you realize.

These purported cures address the results of nail biting not the causes of nail biting. You can spread creams and brush on evil tasting chemicals till the cows come home and with minor exceptions you will still find ways and times to bite and chew your nails.

These treatments are in a manner just fishing lures. Ask any fisherman and he will tell you flashy fancy pretty fishing lures are designed to catch the fisherman first and of course to sell more fishing lures second.

Do the fancy lures catch fish? Sure they do but the fisherman must fish with them consistently and correctly to produce desired results.

Stop fishing put the fancy lure away and then you stop catching fish. Stop using the no bite aids and most start biting their nails again.

In fact the no bite aids by tasting awful are designed to stop nail biting when used consistently. The urges and the users subconscious needs to continue biting their nails are not removed.

It just stands to reason that if you have the need to bite your nails and stop applying or using the no bite aid you will be far more likely than not to continue to chew your nails. You will still have the want and the need.

If a person bites their nails you can rest assured that there is a reason for it. People do not adopt nasty ugly habits without some reason.

The reason may simply be that the biter as a youngster watched their mother bite her nails. Maybe they watched as their older brother learned to bite his nails. It could be the nail biter replaced some other bad habit with a new one they felt was less harmful and embarrassing for them.

People just are not born to be nail chewers. Somehow and somewhere people simply learn to chew and bite their nails.

The reasons a person bites their nails is important only in so much as the reason needs to be identified before the need to bite and chew their nails can be removed. Will power is not enough.

Over time the nail biter realizes a personal gain from exercising their bad habit, biting their nails. For them someway, somehow, the biter receives a certain amount of comfort, satisfactions or solace from the act of biting their nails.

Simply put biting their nails gives them pleasure in some way and people continue to seek out and do those things that give them pleasure. The human brain is wired to do that.

Most nail biters will forecfully deny receiving pleasure from biting their nails but in some definitive way they do. For undetermined reasons they like biting their nails. They like biting and chewing their nails it is the end results of the biting they dislike.

None of us were born to bite our nails and overtime we learn not to do things habititually that do not reward us for doing them. For the habitual nail biter there is a reward of some nature or there would not be a nail biting habit.

Because those who bite their nails gain pleasure of some sort from biting their nails. Because the biter subconsciously actually likes the habit but not the result. The nail biting habit is difficult to break.

Nail biters would forever be comfortable biting their nails if only the ugly results could be stopped. Unfortunately for them that cannot happen.

For most biters simply applying vile tasting no bite polish, pepper laden creams, seeing a nail tech or any other short term fix won't work.

Those fixes are nothing more than the nail biters fishing lures designed to catch those who bite. They are designed to keep the biter buying new cures and keep nail techs in business.

These fishing lure cures do not identify and treat the cause. They do not identify and treat the triggers that put hand to mouth in the first place. They do keep the biter spending their money.

They can't cure the nail biting habit only the results.
