My hair is straight, so I have no idea how well this technique works for people with curly hair. It works very well for me, so Karen has graciously requested that I share this idea with you throughout your hair shop.
First, before you shampoo, the central part of the hair, forehead, neck. Then the part along the back of the head. This may not be accurate. Take your hair from the shoulders forward and brush each section thoroughly to ensure that no tangles.
In the shower, your head upright, put your head directly to the nozzle (if possible!) Wet the hair near the scalp. As the water begins to trickle down briefly your hair smooth water in each section of hair on your hands. This helps keep the hair together and make sure that your hair remains free from tangles of wet.
When hair is very wet, apply shampoo your hair only closest to the scalp. It helps to tip your head slightly side is shampoo. Gently work the foam hair around the scalp. Then use a much smaller amount of shampoo at the end.
As you rinse, keep your head up and use your hands to smooth the outer edges of your hair. I also use my fingers to do some gentle pre-conditioner - nothing too heavy, though.
Apply conditioner, mouthwash to keep your head straight. I still do some soft before unraveling in the wash.
When you shower, use your thumb to squeeze the water to each section of hair from the ears and your finished work. I repeat this process several times before and after the comb-out.
Most of the knots are a few that are near the ends, which are easier to work.
Before I ever tried using this technique, I used to wash my hair "upside down", which makes shampoo easy process, but unraveling a real effort.
Using the technique described above provides virtually no tangles, and reduces the amount of time and effort devoted to unravel. Initially, I was surprised how easy it was to untangle my hair. Whenever I wash my hair now, I smile because I know disentangling happen very quickly.
