subject: 5 Steps To Raising Personal Development Awareness [print this page]

To know yourself is to know your potential, and to discover the many different ways that you can improve yourself or even turn your life around. Unfortunately, self-awareness is not something that can be bought or learned. It takes practice and commitment to explore yourself, and a greater amount of patience to use this knowledge of yourself to improve your personality.

Here are five easy steps to help you get started on the path to self-awareness.

Step 1: Thrive in silence. Many of us actually dread the silence that comes with being alone. To address this, we surround ourselves with noise from people, places or activities to drown out our loneliness. But there are certain discoveries that can be had from moments of silence, so learn to be still and listen to yourself talking.

Step 2: Meditate. This is, of course, easier said than done. Devote a few minutes each day to practice meditation. When you have mastered the art of meditation, you will be able to tap into your subconscious and know yourself on a deeper level.

Step 3: Maximize your time alone. Activities like commuting from your house to your work and back can be made useful, especially for introspection. Take the time out to zone out through the journey and look inside you while insulating yourself from the noise and activity around you.

Step 4: Try something new. Life can be boring, especially if you are doing the same things every day. Step out of your comfort zone, don't follow your schedule. Instead, follow a new route. See if you can discover a new love.

Step 5: Talk to yourself. Ask yourself questions and argue with yourself. This will allow you to explore the way you think, and know your motivations better than you do now.
