subject: 5 Tips To Sustaining Your Personal Development Process [print this page]

It is one thing to decide to start a personal development process, but it is another thing to stick to it. To help you get your act together and see your personal development plan through the end, here are five important tips:

Tip No. 1: Don't be too hard on yourself. You may not see it right now, but there are a lot of things about you that are worth loving. At times when you are getting frustrated by the fact that change is slow to come, do some introspection and rediscover yourself. This will help you see the good things in you, and lead you to forget yourself and take up your cause once again.

Tip No. 2: Keep your intentions in mind. Thinking about what you set out to do, and what you want yourself to be like at the end of the exercise can also help keep you focused. Ideally, you should be sure about your real intentions the moment your start out. At times when you seem to be losing track of things, it helps to remind yourself of the reason why you are doing this in the first place.

Tip No. 3: Be your own strongest competitor. While it is good to outdo yourself, it is not good to set impossible goals. Sometimes, little victories also keep you motivated. So make sure you are always giving yourself the opportunities and the breaks to succeed in small ways.

Tip No. 4: Please yourself. Do whatever you love doing, and in whatever way you want, provided that you keep to your overall end goal. Do not surround yourself with people who are hard on you.

Tip No. 5: Never say die. Failures are a fact of life. And they are no reason to abandon your cause. Take each failure as a challenge to do better next time.
