subject: 3 Top Tips For Answering Personal Development Awareness Questions [print this page]

A lot of people understand the value of knowing oneself and how this can help lead to personal development. In addition, it is also easy to see that self-awareness can only develop after a process of introspection - or asking yourself probing questions that give you a clear idea of who you really are. Unfortunately, answering these questions is sometimes the hardest part, despite the common notion that one should know oneself better than others. If you are trying to search for yourself by asking questions, you might want to remember these tips to help you accurately and honestly assess yourself.

Tip No. 1: Answer in specifics. Be as detailed as possible when answering questions about yourself, as this is the only that you can discover your hidden nooks and crannies. Remember that there is nothing to hide from yourself. Or if there are things that you would rather not recall, remember that there is no need to hide these from yourself, as nobody is out to judge you.

Tip No. 2: Stick to asking questions. Don't make conclusions or judgments about yourself. Your answers in the beginning should be more factual than accusatorial or defensive. Remember that the exercise is meant as a mode of discovery, and not as a means to implicate or to give yourself the opportunity to say "I told you so."

Tip No. 3: Be candid. Do not consciously scrimp on your answers. Be spontaneous, even with the questions that you ask of yourself. Give yourself a free rein, and let yourself probe into the deepest recesses that you have never been to before.

Finally, throughout the entire exercise, remember that nothing beats being honest.
