subject: Start A Business With Social Networking Sites [print this page]

Ever wonder how social networking sites really earn their money? Facebook or multiply doesn't charge you for maintaining your personal profile, do they? It's all in the advertisements and sponsors-even the widgets, games, and applications you use in your profile. And with the millions of members of a networking site, you can imagine how much money all those ads make. What if you can start a business like that, without launching your own social networking site?

Well, of course you don't expect to earn millions like Twitter does, but still, you can make some decent, even hefty extra income with social media marketing. The gist of the idea is to take advantage of the popularity of social networking media and advertise in your profile. You can even start a business (or sort of business) using this concept on all of your accounts in every social networking site you've ever come across-even blogging sites. First off, of course you'll need partners, affiliates that need to advertise or sell something. You can either make your own ads or obtain ads from them and post it on your profile for all to see. Sometimes you get a percentage from a sale you helped make and sometimes a mere click of a web surfer on one of your ads makes you a few cents already; sometimes both.

The bottom line if you want to start a business like this is: active advertising is key. Sure you can just leave the ads there and make passive income, but you won't make a lot. You have to keep informed on how well your ads are doing, and how much attention they get, as well as how persuading they are.
