Practically every day one can find reports of yet more accidents concerning teenage drivers. Many accidents involve more than one teenager in a car. Many accidents have more than one victims. Many accidents involve pedestrian victims. In this article we consider four reported accidents. One case resulted in serious injuries. The other three ended in a fatality.
In this publication a motor vehicle accident was described in which the driver was a 16 year old who has a junior license which let the teenager to drive up to 9:00 in the evening. The incident, though, happened on a weekday after 9:00 p.m. The reason why is unclear but somehow the driver lost control of the car. As a result the car hit another vehicle and then struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, was waiting at a bust stop when the accident happened, died from his injuries. The victim was a 65 year old man. The driver survived the accident with only minor injuries. He was, however, arrested and charged with speeding, manslaughter, and criminally negligent homicide.
In this report the driver of the vehicle was a drunk eighteen year old male. The motor vehicle accident took place prior to dawn on a Sunday. Weekend evenings pose the biggest risk for accidents involving drunk drivers. As per the report the victim in this situation was struck while crossing a road. He was forty four years old. Because of the accident he suffered significant head injuries. Following the accident the teenage drunk driver was arrested and was charged with driving under the influence and with driving while intoxicated.
According to this report the driver was an 18 year old male. The motor vehicle accident happened in the morning hours on a Sunday. The accident happened in a residential area. The accident occurred when the teenage driver lost control of his car. It turned forcefully and flipped, hitting a pedestrian who had just left his car to get a pamphlet from the front yard of one of the homes. The home was for sale and had a sign and the pamphlets in the front yard. After hitting the victim the car continued until it was ultimately stopped by slamming into a tree in front of the house. The 67 year old male victim did not survive the accident.
This motor vehicle accident involved a nineteen year-old female driver also driving in a residential community. She left the scene of the accident after she hit a woman who was gardening in a flower bed in front of her own home. The teenage driver struck the woman so hard that she threw her virtually 150 feet. The female victim ended up slamming against a truck that was parked in the driveway of her home. The driver did not stop. Nearly 30 minutes after the accident the police found the young driver and placed her under arrest. They found her not far from the scene of the accident. She stated she was going back to the scene to take responsibility for the accident.
On a personal level it is sad to have to read about these accidents. Lives are destroyed in them. Victims can die or endure significant injuries. Some are left with permanent disabilities. The families of the victims also suffer a great loss. Even the teenage drivers life is changed forever. Sometimes they suffer the rest of their lives from having to know what they did. Sometimes they are incarcerated.
