subject: What You Will Want To Learn About A Same Day Usa Passport [print this page]

Taking a look at same day United States passport processes is a good idea if the time comes when a passport is needed in a big hurry. Keep in mind that it's difficult for the US government to produce much of anything in a day. But a common exception to this rule is when it comes to passports, fortunately. It could take a bit of effort and some travel, but getting a passport in a single day can be done.

In general, most people who need a passport in a hurry usually work through one of many different passport expediting services that can be found on the Internet. Just be prepared to pay a premium for such assistance, though it may not actually be all that much, relatively speaking. There are times, though, when an expediting service may not be available. If that's the case, other avenues are open.

There are, scattered around the country, a number of passport service centers, though none accept applications without an appointment. For what it's worth, there are centers on both coasts and in the Midwest, chief among them being the large regional center in Chicago, Illinois. Others are in Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as Miami, New York, and Washington DC. Just call to make an appointment.

If a passport is required in a single day, it's pretty much a given that a personal visit to one of those regional centers will be required, because there's no other way - outside of an expediting service - to get it done. Additionally, expect to spend up to five hours waiting on the U.S. passports to be processed. That's why it's smart to make an appointment for very early in the day.

Many people who have obtained a passport in a single day advise that people who need such passports work through the government automated phone system to set up their appointments. As well, they all make a strong recommendation that passport photos be taken ahead of time and brought along. Most passport centers don't have facilities for the taking of photos. Many US post offices can do so, though.

On the day of the appointment, it's very important to be punctual. If the appointment is lost due to lateness, there's little chance of getting another one that same day. Keep in mind, as well, that passports processed and then made on the same day may be a little pricey. Currently, costs for such documents run between $220 and $300. Not getting a passport because of lack of funds would be a shame.

Along with passport photos, the right passport application and funds, make sure proper proofs of identity and citizenship are also brought along. There are strict security guidelines the State Department must follow when it comes to citizenship paperwork. Normally, birth certificates with raised seals or other documentation will be required. If a background check is done, expect to pay even more money.
