subject: There Can Be Only One Best Actress [print this page] Lorna Jane may have the beauty and brains but I have the talent. Too much, in fact, that it could be my one-way ticket to Employee of the Month slash Best Actress in a Leading Role. After all there can only be one star in this Brighton pediatrics clinic.
I got into character with no one to goad me break a leg what-have-you, as everyone else in our Brighton pediatrics Michigan was cheering on Lorna Jane. How the rivalry between us started, well, theres only the price of fame to blame.
Lorna Janes your typical ingnue; a sweetheart with good looks and pleasing personality to boot. Why, anyone from the department of pediatrics care in Brighton, Michigan cant help but feel for her with every bat of her endless eyelashes and pout of her candy lips. Anyone but me, I guess, for I know that underneath all that sweetness lies contempt, bitterness, absolute evilness.
It all started with a chair accident. Physicians from a certain Livingston pediatrics clinic were over our clinic that day for some seminar that we were all required to attend. We were all cramped in the small conference room waiting for the video presentation to start. Being the random person that she is, Lorna Jane started tickling me out of nowhere, right? I got back at her, of course and being the attention-grabber that she is, she giggled and squirmed around like a worm being forcibly subjected to a rock salt shower. Tickle, giggle, squiggle; next thing I knew she was, quite literally, two inches above the ground.
She didnt break the little fall but instead, lay flat on her back on the cold marble floor. In an instant, every pediatrics physician in Brighton, Michigan was by her side. The room lit up as if on cue and all the world became Lorna Janes stage. All eyes were on her as she lay there for forever! She started crying; fresh, hot tears rolled down from her flushed cheeks uncontrollably. She made a feeble attempt to sit up and at that, more tears gushed from her pained puppy-dog eyes.
Lorna Janes teary eyes were on me the whole time she was sprawled on my floor that the on-lookers figured that I was the one to blame for the whole mess. Thats when I thought, hey, I want in on the acting. I had a feeling what role Id be landing that I decided to take on the part head-on and no other way else.
I walked right up to the pained Lorna Jane, the tip of my shoe nearly touching her flushed face. I looked down at her with eyebrows nearly touching the heavens and eyes nearly lethal. Serves you right escaped from my tight lips, loud enough for everyone to hear. I made a quick exit. I swear I could hear clapping as I sashayed out the room. I am the best actress.
