You want a storage shed to keep your garden clean and pretty? Maybe you've even already searched for ready made sheds but nothing suits your needs?
Don't worry, just build your own! It's not as complex as it sounds and you will build something that might just last a lifetime and reminds you every time you walk by it what a stud you are.(No offense, female woodworkers)
Follow these tips and you'll have it built in no time.
Step one
Where do you want it to be? Designate an area and find out what the maximum size for this location is. A corner is often a good idea.
Step two
You know the size, now make a sketch of what you want. It doesn't have to be perfect, a rough sketch is all you need. Take it to a home improvement store and they will (hopefully) draft a good plan for you, how your storage shed will look like, according to your specifics. You should be given a list of the materials you need and a step by step guide of what you have to do.
Step three
Get those materials and put them in your operating distance. Running around all over the place while searching for the appropriate side wall is not only time consuming, it also makes you look uncool. Nobody wants that.
Step four
Let's go. First you have to make the ground level so you can lay the foundation. I guess you have already decided if you want a plank wooden floor or one made out of concrete.
Step five
The side walls. Get your materials for this ready. My tip is to build them on the ground and lift them to their position once they are ready.
Your guide should cover this.
Step six
All about the roof. Construct your trusses. Build one and model the rest of them after this one. But follow your guide rather than me if there are discrepancies.
Step seven
It's taking some shape now, isn't it. Time to build the end walls. You know what I'll say: Mind your guide.
Step eight
The final steps. The trim is essential, it gives your shed that finished look. Don't try to save money or time here.
Step nine
Apply those shingles for the roof and then, very important, treat the wood. If it wasn't for a protective coating your shed will soon be destroyed by the elements. To save it from rotting apply wood stains, paints or varnish, how you like it.
Step ten
Get the beer from the refrigerator. You've done it. Sit back and marvel in your awesome shed building skills. I, certainly, would think this shed was bought from a professional store, so great is it.
