subject: Aston Martin Db9 Voted Nations Favourite Car Of The Past 25 Years [print this page] A poll conducted by Direct Line Car Insurance named Aston Martin DB9 as the nations favourite car of the past 25 years. Voters chose from a list of 30 of the best loved motors of the 80s,90s and noughties, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Insurance company.
Of the 2,700 Brits that voted one in ten named the Aston Martin DB9 coupe as their favourite motor. Synonymous with James Bond, the DB5 version of the luxury sports car has earned the brand its iconic status. The poll shows that used Aston Martin are popular classic motors, despite the DB9 being only six years old.
In second place, with 5% of the vote, was the original boy racers favourite hot hatch, the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The BMW MINI, the modern take on a long-term classic, came in third place with 4% of the vote.
The 1980s Audi Quattro, currently enjoying a starring role in TV's Ashes to Ashes, came fourth in the poll, with the quintessentially British Jaguar XJ achieving fifth place.
There were disappointing results for the Austin/Rover Metro, the Jeep and the Toyota Prius, who did not receive a single vote.
Jennifer Thomas, spokesperson for Direct Line, commented: As a result of Britains heritage of motoring we love cars for a wide variety of reasons, from being a classic British brand, to motorsport prowess to having modern design flair. Over the past 25 years Direct Line has insured a whole range of makes and models of cars and were looking forward to following the motoring trends into the next decade and beyond.
