subject: The Fundamentals Of Clean Computer Registry, Using Registry Cleaning Software [print this page]

The computers registry is very important it is where all the data is held that allows you to use the programs that are on your computer, this is why it is important to maintain clean computer registry. To open a file the registry is sent a message when you try to open the program; this tells the registry to look for the file that holds the information to tell it to open the file. When there is so much information held by the registry that it becomes cluttered and unorganised and holds a lot of unused useless files, it takes a long time for the registry to go through all these files to look for the one it needs to open the program, this is the reason why your computer slows down and starts to freeze and errors start to appear.

The more you use your computer and the more programs that are on it, the quicker the registry gets filled and becomes cluttered and starts to cause problems. After carrying out a registry clean on your computer, the registry will be uncluttered and should perform to a higher standard. The registry clean should be carried out using specialised registry clean software rather than being done manually. As doing it manually is more risky, due to the complexity of the system and one mistake could be critical and detrimental to life of your computer. A backup should be taken of the registry before allowing the registry cleaning software to perform a scan. After the scan has been performed, the program will provide the user with a list of files and errors and ask them if they wish to delete the files or keep them. If the user is absolutely sure that they dont need the files, they can delete them, however there will be files that the user has no idea about, these files should be kept in case they are critical to the running of the computer.

There is free software available but it may not be fully up to date and therefore not able to recognise some of the more recent information which may have been picked up from surfing the internet. Using free software may not give completely clean computer registry. Free software is generally not a full package, for example, the free software may perform a scan and tell the user what errors it has found, but it may not have the power to delete these errors. The user will then have the option of purchasing the full package. The decision about which software to purchase will depend on both the user and the operating system the computer is using, the software chosen will depend on whether it suits the Windows version. Some cleaning software has an auto backup included which will allow you to restore your computer should anything go wrong during the scan. Some software also has an auto delete function; this means that if the scan picks up data which is obviously obsolete such as fragments of uninstalled software, it will automatically delete these files. To continue to achieve the highest performance from your computer it is necessary to maintain a clean computer registry, this can be done by carrying out regular registry cleaning.
