subject: Mothers Day Gifts - Moms Have Changed, Gifts Haven't [print this page]

Every year, as soon as mothers day comes within a week's range, newspapers, magazines and TV channels start promotions for different gift items and special discounts and packages. If you pick up a catalog from somewhere back in the 60s and compare it to one now you'll see a huge difference in how moms look. While magazines and TV channels have realized that moms look different today than they did years ago, what few realize is that moms actually are different.

Most ads will still feature mom scrubbing away at dishes in the kitchen or gardening. As if it isn't bad enough to show that moms never leave a kitchen or the backyard (when in reality moms have jobs and are one of the most active members of any community) the worst part is that years ago magazines told us to get our moms flowers, and today; magazines still tell us to get our moms flowers!

Today moms work high profile jobs; there are single moms out there who raise entire families, moms coach soccer teams and organize blood drives and all we're ready to give them after all these years are a bunch of flowers. What moms need is a different kind of gift, one that really appreciates them for these diverse roles that they play. Unfortunately if you go looking for unique gifts for mothers day all you'll find are things that can't really be sold for everyday use and are, instead, being promoted as unique (or in other words insane) gifts for mom. People will sell everything from kitchen cabinet knobs to hummingbird feeders! Like any mom has the time to redo a kitchen or to refill the food supply for birds!

Mothers day gifts need to be special and something that moms can enjoy instead of being something new that they have to take care of. Mothers day fruit baskets are a good choice because unlike flowers you don't have to put them in water and then throw them out a week later. Instead you enjoy eating fresh fruit. Of course a lot of people may feel that plain old fruit doesn't do mom justice either so they can try fruit bouquets. Fruit bouquets are made by cutting fresh fruit into unique shapes and using chocolate dipped strawberries and dipped pineapple slices to make it look like real flowers! They're fruit gifts at their best. So instead of giving your mom flowers and making her feel like she's back in the dark ages, give her a treat this mothers day!
