subject: The Truth About E Cigarettes [print this page]

The E Cigarette is the brand new alternative to smoking and is being hailed as 'the safer smoking alternative'. It is designed to look like the real thing as well as giving the user the same feel and effect of smoking real cigarettes.

The E Cigarette is a battery powered device that provides nicotine in a vaporised state once inhaled by the user. E Cigarettes are non-flammable and purely mimic the effects and look of tobacco products such as cigarettes and cigars.

The E cigarette does not involve any tobacco smoke or tobacco, supposedly making it a safer alternative to smoking. The E Cigarette is merely used to give the user the nicotine dose that they are craving. This happens through advanced microelectronic technology.

One of the benefits of the E Cigarette is that it is re-usable and all of its parts are replaceable or refillable. A number of disposable E Cigarettes have been developed to suit people's preferences.

The main components of the E Cigarette are; the rechargeable battery, the atomisation chamber and the replaceable nicotine cartridge. The E Cigarette works when the user inhales on the device, causing the liquid nicotine held inside the nicotine chamber, to be drawn into the atomisation chamber. Here the liquid is heated up from the power of the battery and results in the user inhaling nicotine vapour.

The E Cigarette is claimed to not pose the risk of passive smoking because instead of exhaling tobacco smoke, a colourless vapour is emitted comprising mainly of excess nicotine vapour and water vapour.

Recent studies have shown that it is tobacco rather than nicotine that is the cause of most smoking related deaths and illnesses, which is why the E Cigarette is being hailed as the safer smoking alternative. This has made them increasingly popular, though there are still some restrictions on the E Cigarette in a few countries.

Currently the E Cigarette is unrestricted in the United Kingdom and United States of America, however the sale and use of the E Cigarette in Brazil, Canada, Panama and Singapore is strictly prohibited. In New Zealand, the E Cigarette can only be sold as a registered medicine and the E Cigarette without nicotine is permitted in Australia and Denmark.
