subject: 4 Different Types Of Mattress [print this page] When buying a new bed you may feel this time around you want something that is going to be comfortable and last a long while. Maybe you are fed up of disturbed sleep due to the quality of your mattress. When choosing a mattress you may have run across several different types but are unsure which one to get. Below is a list of different types of mattress that are available on the market.
Open Spring - The open spring is the most common one available. It has a border to it to give it a firm edge and help it retain its shape. They are very cheap but do not last very long and can become uncomfortable fairly quickly.
Pocket Spring - This type is of better quality than the open spring and houses smaller springs. These springs are separated by fabric pockets so the springs aren't as noticeable as they are in the open spring. This type if great if you are sleeping someone who has a very different weight to you as it is good at handling the difference. They also need to be turned regularly to keep them even.
Memory Foam Mattress - This type is very popular. Memory foam moulds to your body to give you excellent support. It allows you to move freely during sleep. It helps maintain correct posture and alignment of the spine when you are lying down. If you have back problems this is great to ease pain because of its supportive nature. It also is great for allergy sufferers is it is hypo-allergenic and has anti-microbial properties. One down side to this type is that air circulation isn't really possible and many people find they get too hot in it. Most mattresses though come with an air-max cooling cover to aid with this. I own one of these types of mattresses and don't overheat at all. Neither does my boyfriend. Another thing to consider with this type is that they come in certain thicknesses depending on weight. It is best to get a thicker one if you are bordering between two thicknesses.
Latex mattress - This type is made of polymer and has a resilient feel. It is very durable and also is hypoallergenic like the memory foam. It also conforms to your body as well but unlike memory form is breathable so you won't overheat in it.
These 4 mattresses are the most popular types available and it is best to try them out if you are considering buying. This is very easy to do as most stores will have one of each in their store.
