subject: Computing And The Future - Careers And Opportunities [print this page]

Making any kind of choice regarding your career is always difficult. Whether it is at the time of just starting out after finishing school or college, or if it is after twenty years in a steady job but time for a change - it is never easy. Usually, the most difficult part is deciding what is you are going to do, after that; it is normally just a case of finding out how to get to where you want to be.

The Internet has opened a wealth of opportunities within the field of computing. Programmers, developers and network engineers are now employed the world over thanks to the reach and power of the technologies. As the technology has advanced, it has become more and more prominent in day to day life, as well as in the business sector, money transactions and communications now take seconds compared to days only a decade ago.

Due to the sheer prominence of the web and the advancement in Internet enabled technologies such as internet television and mobile phones there is little indication that reliance on internet technology is becoming less. Computing, be it programming, development or hardware engineering, it is likely that there will always be a space for these type of skills and opportunities for those who want to make a career of it.

The world of computing is always changing and advancing so is an exciting industry to be involved with. There are opportunities for programmers, developers, designers and hardware specialists all over the globe. Usually qualifications are required, even for junior positions, but there are academic qualifications as well as software or hardware specific courses that can provide these. The beauty of the internet is that is a global technology and so there is the chance to work almost anywhere in the world.

The role computers and the internet now plays in our lives is likely much more than anyone would have predicted ten or fifteen years ago. It is still in its relative infancy as a technology and it is widely predicted that there is still much untapped potential for its use and application. Now could be the perfect time to join the party and to be involved, first-hand with the next wave of the web.
