Learn How to Soundproof A Room - Secrets to Soundproof a Room Effectively

So you want to soundproof a room? You may want to sound proof a room for many different reasons. Some of these reasons could be loud neighbours, loud traffic outside, you want to make a studio, loud laundry equipment, and many other reasons too! Whatever you're reason, soundproofing a room is a great idea and can provide more peace within you're home.

I remember when I lived with a friend for a few months. She had 2 children. As someone who works midnights, I slept during the day. Well let me tell you, with a house that clearly did not soundproof a room, it was almost impossible to sleep. There were 3 floors to this house. You could literally hear everything that was happening on the third floor, when you were on the bottom floor. It sounded like it was directly beside you. Needless to say, I didn't live there for long. I would have preferred to sleep in my car, honestly. Soundproofing a room, or just my room even, would of fixed this in no time.

Now to understand how you should soundproof a room, you should first understand how sound itself works. Basically, it is waves that go throughout your house. It can go through any medium such as walls, floors etc. There are different surfaces that will automatically dampen the noise without having to do any major work to sound proof a room. I will give you some examples.

First off, carpet. If you have carpet in your house and you can still hear everything and anything, then chances are it is a very thin, non-soundproof carpet. Different carpets will provide different insulation to the sound. Another method to sound proofing a room is to make the ceilings and walls a rough surface. "Stucko" is an example of a rough surface. However, you can also get an acoustic spray, put it on the ceiling and then your room willr be dampened of sound. However, it is definitely not nearly as effective as actually learning how to soundproof a room.
