subject: Easy To Learn French - At Home And On The Move [print this page]

Not so long ago you had few choices for learning French, and none of them were all that appealing! You could go to a night class, you could buy a text book or two (yawn) or you could order very expensive (and really quite boring) sets of tapes to learn French at home. Fortunately times change!

It's the internet, for one thing, and your personal computer for another. Creators soon realized they could deliver software to learn French that was relatively cheap and best of all, fun! The world of French home study courses changed almost overnight.

It's not that I've got anything against French text books as such. I have several myself, some of them very good. Modern writing techniques and teaching methods can deliver patterns of learning that your brain can adopt naturally. As a result they can often be much better than when I was young.

However for fast, easy to learn French, they get nowhere near modern interactive programs and French MP3s. Sadly you can't hear a book. It can show you what a French accent looks like but not what one sounds like. A French book can ask you questions but it can't give you a selection of possible answers and then lead you to the next question depending on your choice. It can't play French learning games with you, etc.

French software downloads can do precisely that. They can keep you or your kids entertained so that at times you start to forget you are learning French and are just entertained by the process. It makes learning French at home something that the whole family can do, and that they look forward to. There's nothing that puts people off learning more than when it becomes a chore.

The other big advantage with some of today's courses is that they supply French MP3 files. With those, you take take some of the French lessons with you wherever you go. You can carry on learning in the car, jogging, on the train, even on the plane to France perhaps!
