It was recently anounced that Churchill Downs, Inc., and NBC Sports are collaborating to present six of the most significant graded stakes races for three-year-olds leading up to the Kentucky Derby on May 1st. This will take place over three broadcasts, and the races are the Lane's End and the Louisiana Derby on 3-27; the Santa Anita Derby and the Wood Memorial on 4-2; and the Blue Grass Stakes and Arkansas Derby on 4-10. It is really gratifying to see business partnerships that further the sport of horse racing, and as a lifelong fan, the end result is that I get to see more of the top races on national television. As casino gambling has become more ubiquitous around the country, horse racing has faced new challenges for their market share, but from my perspective going to the races and watching these amazing athletes in action is an entirely diferent experience than going to a casino. A day at the track is something that the entire family can enjoy, and though making a wager can make it more fun for some people, it is an enjoyable outing even if you just kick back with an iced cold beverage and some great food and soak in the sights and sounds at one of the venerable tracks around the country. Many people don't recognize the path that leads to the Triple Crown races, and this partnerhsip will enable viewers to get more of a feel for the events that precede the big three. If you watch these races on NBC, you will already know the cast of characters pretty well by the time Kentucky Derby day is upon us on May 1st, 2010. Kudos to Churchill Downs and NBC Sports, and I can guarantee you that I will be glued to the set as the Triple Crown races unfold.About the Author:
