subject: Some Mistakes On Supplementing Calcium [print this page]

Many people take calcium products for supplementing calcium, but they are not clear on how to promote calcium absorption in the diet. With little carelessness, it may fall into errors, resulting in preventing the absorption of calcium. It is good for you to learn these common errors on supplementing calcium in the following article.

Errors one: eating many beef

Many people believe that people in Europe and the United States are so strong because they love to eat beef. In fact, people who often eat beef lack of calcium seriously. Because the beef, include all the meats, have low calcium content. Meanwhile, the meat contains a lot of the acidic elements such as phosphorus, sulfur and chlorine, which tends to make the blood acidic, so the body had to use food and calcium in the bones to neutralize the acidic elements, thus increasing the calcium loss and reduce the absorption in the body. Therefore, old men with calcium deficiency should control of the intake of meat properly.

Errors two: replace meals with fruit

Many women who want to lose weight believe that the fruits can provide enough protein and vitamins, so eating fruits can help on losing weight. In fact, the fruits are foods which are useful to acid-base balance instead of good source of calcium. Bone requires a lot of calcium. Using fruit to replace three meals a day, it would promote the incidence of osteoporosis because the intake of protein and calcium are not enough.

Errors three: drinking lots of bone soup

Calcium in bone will not easily dissolve out. An experiment shows that fat in bone marrow has been dissolved after two hours of cooking in a pressure cooker, but the calcium in soup is still very little. If you want to supplement calcium with bone soup, there is only one way: add half bowl of vinegar, slowly stewed about two hours. Vinegar can help dissolute calcium from the bone.

Errors four: drinking lots of carbonated drinks

Most carbonated drinks contain phosphates, which would seriously hamper the absorption of calcium and promote calcium loss. Coke is one of the biggest hazards because it contains phosphoric acid. Put peoples teeth and bones into the coke, they would be slowly melt. Besides, the refined sugar is not conducive to calcium absorption. So people who want to supplement calcium should strictly control the number of sweet drinks. However, tea is rich in potassium, has low phosphorus content and fluorine which can promote teeth strong. So drinking tea is beneficial for bone health.
