subject: A Garage Floor Coating Can Beautify Your Garage. [print this page]

Resistance to grease, acid and other chemicals often used in the garage is built into a high quality Garage Floor Coating and is one of the main benefits of a garage floor coating. Beautifying your garage floor with a garage floor coating will also add value to your property, and this is the second benefit that an application of a floor coating will give.

Because the garage floor gets used fairly heavily, it requires a hard wearing surface to cope with the wear and tear; applying a garage floor coating is one way of increasing the life of the garage floor by preventing damage from grease and dirt.

A Garage floor coating is very easy to apply and will greatly increase the life of the floor. Although the floor coating will initially cost some money in the long term it will turn out to be a wise decision. Floor Coating is an inexpensive solution to protecting and enhancing the garage floor when compared to floor tiles and floor mats; floor coating properly done, leaves you without worry for a long time and has the least maintenance.

There are a couple of considerations if you are planning on doing the coating yourself.

While covering the floor with the coating, ensure that a roller with an extension handle is used. Roll in one direction covering small sections of the garage floor. Once the first small section is covered, apply a second application by rolling in a perpendicular direction to before and follow the same approach of rolling in one direction over the same small area. Now move on to another small area and follow the same procedure, continue doing this until the entire floor of the garage is covered.

If you want added glamour you can even apply some color flakes after the coating has been applied. You need to be sure the floor coating is still wet and add an extra coating with the added flakes in the same way the first coat was applied; this application is done in sections as before and once the coating is finished it should be left to dry for at lease a day.

Watching a professional do the job is one way of learning the application process, you could either do that at someone else's garage or hire your own professional floor painter and keep the wisdom gained till next time you wish to epoxy coat a floor.

If you hire a professional, supervision will be required to ensure that you get a good job done especially if you are using flakes in the top coat. Time, effort and money is being spent and unless the job is being done in the correct manner there is no way that you can be sure of getting a good finish on the Garage Floor Coating.
