subject: Hair Styles For Long Hair--two Styles You Can Do Now [print this page] Having trouble finding hair styles for long hair that can be done quickly and at home? If you're like most women, your active lifestyle can do numbers on your hair. Often, it's just impossible to go to the beauty shop frequently enough to keep up with the demands of your active lifestyle. The following are two hair styles that you can apply quickly and from the comfort of your home. (DISCLAIMER: I'm not going to pretend that these styles will replace your hair specialist, but they are great styles for doing your hair between salon visits.)
The Quick And Easy Curl
This hair style's focus is to give you a sophisticated look without alot of fuss.
Here's the tools you'll need (in parenthesis are my brand recommendations):
a. Blow Dryer (Bed Head BH401 1875 Watt Fiber Optic Pulsating Tourmaline Ionic Dryer)
b. Hot Rollers or Small Barreled Curling Iron (Remington H-1000 All That Wrap 'n roll Setter)
c. Shampoo and Conditioner*
d. Curl Enhancing Balm, Mouse, or Moisturizer and Heat Protectant*
e. Non-stiffening Hair Spray*
(For c, d, and e, choose the products of your choice. My preference is for all natural products.)
Step 1: Wash your hair.
Step 2: Add the moisturizer, mousse, curl enhancer, etc. to help bring out the curls. Also, add your favorite heat-protectant .
Step 3: Comb your hair and create a part down the middle.
Step 4: Dry your hair hair until it is damp dry. If you're short on time, a towel dry should be fine.
Step 5: Start scrunching your hair to develop any natural curls you may have (You can use your favorite mist to help them come in faster).
Step 6: Lift your hair at the roots by running your fingers through your hair.
Step 7: If you'd like to add more volume, dry your hair upside down while continuing to scrunch with your fingers.
Step 8: If your hair has a natural curl, you should probably be close to seeing the results you'd like to achieve. If not, add more curl and volume using the hot hair rollers or a small barreled curling iron.
Step 9: When your hair is in the style that you like, finish it off with a non-stiffening hairspray.
The "Classic" Messy Up-Do
The messy up-do has been a popular style for long enough that it can be considered a "classic" look. To get this look:
Step 1: Brush the tangles out of your hair. Use a misting spray to (slightly) dampen your hair if needed.
Step 2: Grab the front portion of your hair and secure it with your hair twistee, ponytail holder, etc. **Note: Whatever you use to secure your hair, make sure that you don't just use a regular rubber band. Never use anything that doesn't have a protective coating in your hair.***
Step 3: Place a hair clasp over the hair twistee.
Step 4: Grab the rest of your hair in a loose ponytail and use your hair twistee to secure it.
Step 5: In one motion, twist your ponytail up to the crown of your head and secure it with hair pins.
Step 6: Make sure that some of your ends are left loose. Now make them as "messy" as you'd like.
Step 7: After you get the desired look, spray hairspray to keep it in place.
There are literally hundreds of hair styles for long hair. The best part about these two styles is that they are easy to do, and can quickly be adapted for any occasion. Plus, the easy curl and the messy up-do are the basis for just about any long hair style. Learn how to do these, and you have the basics to do just about any other hair style.
