subject: College Life: Conquering Your Freshman Fears Part 2 [print this page]

A freshman in college can have his/her own fears that can hamper their college life. Part 1 of this article explained three such fears and how to get rid of them or handle them. This is continuation of part 1 where two more freshman fears are explained.

Freshman Fear #4: I won't be able to do well academically.

Without hard work, this fear can become a reality. Indeed, college will be more difficult than your high school. The load of homework will rise with their complexity rising as well. You might not get easy assignments that could help gain quick points.

It is important to remember however, that at times the GPA of college students does drop down if compared with their high school GPA. This does not mean in anyway that these students are not doing well. On the contrary, more complex and challenging activities and tasks are now being done by these students in a new environment which can be a bit difficult to adjust in the beginning. However, hang on and all will be fine. Remember to ask for help when needed.

Freshman Fear #5: I am homesick or I am going to be homesick

This is one fear that is most probably going to be true. Most of you will be missing your near and dear ones and the familiar environment in which you were living. College life will bring you to an entirely new world that you might find difficult to adjust in the beginning. However, with time, you should be able to adjust. In the meantime, remember that you can remain in touch with your loved ones. Technology has made it far easier these days with the internet, webcam and web-conferencing that allow you to see your loved ones while talking with them.
