subject: Making Money With Your Blog Requires Commitment [print this page]

Many people dream of making money from their blog, and this goal can be achieved if you have basic writing skills and a willingness to work hard. However, very few people manage to achieve the level of income they want from their blog. Most people who attempt to make money with their blogs do not succeed for a couple of reasons. Often, bloggers have unrealistic expectations of how fast their readership will grow and how much money they will make, and when these expectations are not met the disappointment overcomes the desire to continue. The other wall that many bloggers hit is the lack of planning. If you want to turn a profit as a blogger, the key to success is to establish realistic goals and stick with them until you succeed.

The main component to success in blogging is having a large reader base. Advertisers won't want to pay you for advertising space unless your traffic statistics are really impressive. However, cultivating regular readers is no easy task. The competition is so fierce that having a great idea or a unique writing style is no longer enough. You'll need to be able to market your blog effectively and aggressively.

You need to find the perfect balance of publishing posts and promoting your blog. Updating your content often is a great way to keep search engine rankings high, and readers will return more often if they know they will probably find fresh content. However, it does not matter how often you update if nobody is reading your blog, so you must dedicate an adequate amount of time to promotion as well. If you want to realize your dreams of a full-time blogging income, decrease the amount of new posts and dedicate some of that time to promoting. Take the time to network with fellow bloggers and exchange links.

Even if you are a marketing genius or have a really great niche to blog about, success is not going to come overnight. Building the kind of readership that blogging for profit requires takes lots of time, and in all likelihood it could be at least several months before you are able to make a few dollars. You have to stay committed and focused during this initial unpleasantness, and remember why you started blogging in the first place. Staying motivated means setting attainable goals and constantly working to achieve them. It's a long road, but reaching the end will be that much more rewarding.
