subject: Spring Cleaning Tips For The Bedroom [print this page]

Spring cleaning - that age old tradition that has been passed down through time. To get the most out of spring cleaning, you need to look at it as more than just a task that your mother ingrained into you from an early age. Spring is a time of renewal in nature. The birds are once again singing their happy songs. The sun burns warmer and longer, and puts a spring in your step. Your home has been cooped up throughout the long winter months, and deserves some airing out. The rewards to you for spring cleaning are huge.

There are plenty of rooms in the house to go through, but we are going to focus here on creating a new bedroom space for the spring and summer months. This, after all, is the room where you go to rejuvenate and gain strength and energy for the day ahead. Without a cozy sleeping area, you cannot start the day right.

The first step to giving your room a good makeover is to clean out any clutter. A quick visual sweep of the room will tell you where you need to start. This task should take very little time, actually. All you have to do is clear any clutter on nightstands, the floor, dressers or any other surface. Get rid of items that you do not need, and put others in their proper place. This step will lead you into the step of dusting down all surfaces.

Dust has no place in your home, especially in your bedroom. Dust contains thousands of tiny particles, some of which are actually contaminants that will irritate your respiratory system. When dusting, use a spray and cloth so you don't just send dust scattering into the air. Include the ceiling fan and blinds in your dusting task as well as all other surfaces.

In terms of dust, you may have little critters called dust mites swarming your mattresses and pillows. With traditional mattresses, unfortunately, there isn't a lot you can do to rid them of dust mites. However, today there are organic mattresses on the market that can inhibit the activity of this pesky creature. Organic mattresses come in a variety of materials such as cotton and wool. However, when it comes to dust mites and organic mattresses, it is latex mattresses that are your best friend in the bedroom.

Latex mattresses are made of material from the rubber tree. From a reputable source, they will be chemical free and organic. What is so great about latex mattresses is that dust mites cannot live in them just because of the nature of the material. They are also extremely comfortable and long lasting, making them a great investment for the home.

Floors could also use a deep cleaning after the winter months, just to freshen them up and get rid of any lingering dust and contaminants. It is recommended that carpets get a good steam cleaning once a year, and spring is the perfect time to perform the task. To save yourself time and hassle, this is something you can assign to a professional company.

Spring gives you the opportunity to create new and inviting spaces in your home. The bedroom is a place all your own and should be not only comfortable but also cozy and peaceful.
