subject: Oily Skin: Searching For The Right Acne Products [print this page]

Proper skin care is vital for our survival and should just be seen as a matter of vanity. In fact, our skin is what helps regulate our body temperature, protect internal organs, and help us stay hydrated.

When our skin is damaged, we become vulnerable to infection, blood loss and heat loss. So, the best skin care doesn't just focus on making us look good, it also focuses on keeping our skin strong, healthy, and balanced so that it can fulfill all of its functions. In more specific terms it means that if you have oily skin you'll need a product that can help control the production of sebum and increase the sloughing off of skin cells so that acne does not become a serious issue.

Controlling Acne: The Best Acne Product Ingredients

If you want to keep a control on your acne you need to find the best acne creams. The best acne products are not determined by their brand name but by their ingredients.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid. It has the ability to correct irregular sloughing off of the skin cells. This is highly important because irregular shedding can quickly lead to clogged pores.

Salicylic acid can also penetrate the pores and help correct uneven shedding from within. It can also help unclog blocked pores.

Vitamin A, also known as Retinol

Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A, that at times goes by its other name, retinoids. This is probably one of the best ingredients for the acne treatment.

Like salicylic acid, retinol is also considered a chemical exfoliator. This ingredient can also help inhibit the production of sebum. This means a decrease in clogged pores and acne breakouts.

AHAs aka Alpha hydroxyl acids

Alpha hydroxy acids - or AHAs - are derived from naturally occurring acids found in fruit, sugar cane, and milk. They also have a wide range of benefits that include slowing down the aging process and stimulating cell growth.

When used to treat acne, they can help unclog pores and reduce the chances of new acne formations. They are also used as chemical exfoliators that help regulate the sloughing off of dead skin cells.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is best known for its antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties. You can use tea tree oil in its pure oil form or in an acne cream.

Benzoyl Peroxide

This ingredient is by far the most known oily skin care ingredient. There are many over the counter acne products that contain benzoyl peroxide. However, it can cause some irritation so be careful with its use or substitute it for tea tree oil.
