Blu-Ray is an optical digital strorage format which is will considered to be more advanced than the original DVD. The arrival of the orginal DVD format was a huge success and is now considered to be one of the most successful forms of technology of all time. It uses red laser which is only 650 nm to scan and read a highly powerful disc, capable of storing a vast amount of high quality digital data. Enabling people to enjoy their favorite movies at home and in cinema affect quality. Instead of using a red later, the blu-ray uses, as its name suggests, a blue laser ray to read even more powerful discs. The main advantage of Blu-Ray is that is able to store more six times as much as a standard DVD. The main technical difference is based on the design, with blu-ray discs the data layer is much closer to its surface. Whilst the blu-ray was being designed it was originally planned to be kept within a plastic protective case. However it was decided that this would out price Blu-Ray from the market, alone with the protective case they are currently twice the price of standard DVD's. If the blu-ray player was also designed to accept a full cartridge instead of a flat disc this would have also added considerable cost to the launch of the Blu-ray format. Creating further friction in its chances of being a success. So far the early signs are that Blu-Ray has a massive long term potential, provided the costs remain low and enough production companies releases their movies on the Blu-Ray format. The laser used with in Blu-ray players may at times appear violet and works more effectively because of its shorter wavelength, enabling it to transfer larger volumes of data. The overiding future of the Blu-Ray is based on its ability to converge several media formats onto one disc. The disc is literally able to store much greater volumes of data in comparison to the DVD. For example, a Blu-Ray can be released which will contain not only a movie but also the console computer games of the same title. For example a Blu-Ray can store the Avater movie along with its computer console version. Currently the PlayStation 3 is able to play Blu-Ray discs which reflects its price incomparison to the xBox and Nintendo Wii which almost half the price of the Playstation 3. In summary Blu-Ray is a form of data storage which isfar more advanced than the standard DVD which inspired its creation. It is currently twice the cost of the standard DVD but has the massive potential to combine several formats of media onto one disc. Along with improved picture quality, speed and reliability. Blu-Ray is currently suitable for those who passionately enjoy watching home movies and have the budget to be able to afford the technology. About the Author:
