subject: Simple Home Workouts [print this page]

Sometimes you might be too busy to get out and go to a gym. Other times you are limited on funds or even transportation making it difficult to do exercise anywhere else than your home. There are a variety of simple at home workouts that you can do at home so that you can still work out and get into shape.

One of the most popular types of workouts that are cheap and simple is called bodyweight routines. There are a variety of exercises that can be done using your own weight as resistance for your workout. While these do strengthen your muscles, when done one exercise after another you significantly raise your heart rate giving you a cardio effect as well. While doing exercises without any weights might seem simple, it is much harder than it sounds. The advantage of this workout is that you can literally do it anywhere.

One type of at home weight training that can be done is using dumbbells. You can challenge a variety of muscle groups with dumbbells giving you strength and flexibility. If you add dumbbells to some of your bodyweight exercises, you can make them a bit more challenging.

Another popular at home workout is a kettle bell workout. This is done with a weighted ball that has a handle. There are hundreds of exercises that can be done with this device. You will have to take a class at first, to make sure you are doing everything safely. Once you have mastered the techniques, all you need is the kettle bell to build strength and do a cardio routine with it.

There are also your traditional calisthenics and home workout routines of this nature. Many workout DVDs use these types of moves. They will get your heart rate up to burn fat and give you some flexibility, as you will do some movements that you normally do on a daily basis. Once you memorize the routines, you won't need the tapes.
