subject: Psychology Simplified On How To Create Effective Motivational Energy. [print this page]

What exactly is effective motivation? Isn't it the energy force within us which works to close the gap between where we want to be and where we are now?

How does that gap come about?

It occurs because we have decided that there is a better place or a better position for us to be in than where we are now. In our minds we have formed and declared a commitment to leave where we are, in favour of adopting the position we want to be in.

Isn't that just falling into the trap of thinking that the grass is always greener some place else?

Yes, it can be. But that simple thought generates little or no energy to motivate us to leave where we are. It is a weak apology to ourselves for being stuck where we are and for having ideas above our station! It is in no way inspirational or motivational.

What generates the motivational energy force in us?

It is first the acceptance that we can exert huge influence over the course of our own lives. This in turn encourages us to contemplate creating our own destiny. We find ourselves fastening on specific aspects of our life or of ourselves we want to change. The result of that is we feel deep within ourselves the urge to move forward to achieve more. The clearer picture of where or what we want to be, the more aware we become of the disadvantages of remaining as we are. The consequence of that is how our awareness of the gap between the two becomes so stark and undesirable. We like less and less where we are.

More and more, we focus on "The Why" and "The When" of closing that gap as soon as possible. The more we contemplate the gap, the more the motivational force within us multiplies. The urge to drive across the gap becomes virtually irresistible and continues we have achieved our goal.

So, does this mean that you cannot just get motivated, for its own sake?

Yes! What is the point of going to a major station or airport with no idea at all of where you want to go. To be motivated effectively, we must move towards to the achievement that is pictured or imaged vividly in our minds.

There has to be more than a dream, or a wish in our minds. This is needed to arouse in us that unquenchable motivational energy to move forward to achieve. It needs a goal. It requires a sense of mission, a chosen destination, a commitment properly formed in our imagination if we are to be motivated to convert it into a reality.

The people languishing without motivation have almost certainly absolutely nothing wrong with them! But until they fix on a new destination in their life which is profoundly appealing to them, the energy required to move them forward has no force or direction to take.
