subject: Softball Training Tips The Benefits Of Dynamic Warm Ups [print this page]

Youve probably heard me mention about dynamic warm ups before. In fact, Ive said it so many times in my various softball training tips that you start to wonder why I keep on repeating this same subject again and again.

If I were to make a simple explanation, this would be it: because dynamic warm ups really work. Besides, theres no use doing the same old static stretches again if its proven that it doesnt really work.

But lets get deeper into that. Dynamic warm ups have loads of benefits that static stretches simply cannot deliver. What are those benefits? Great question, because Im going to share with them to you below:

1.Dynamic warm ups truly warm up your body. You perform static stretches as a part of your warm up routine. However, these stretches are actually counter-productive, as they tend to lower your core body temperature, which results in a diminished performance on your part.

What you need then are dynamic warm ups. What these warm ups do is to keep your body moving, which raises your heart rate, respiratory rate, and more importantly, increases your core body temperature.

So if youre looking for a warm up that really works, dynamic warm ups are the way to go.

2.Dynamic warm ups fire up your nervous system. Static stretches put your nervous system to sleep, as such, it doesnt provide you with the game-improving benefit that you wanted to have in the first place.

Dynamic warm ups fire up your nervous system so your muscles can immediately react to the situation around you. Nothing can be more frustrating than thinking you can run quickly to catch the ball, only to find out that your body cannot deliver what you demand of it.

3.Dynamic warm ups focuses you mentally and physically. Dynamic warm ups are typically designed to warm up your muscles by doing the same activities you would be doing during game time. So if youre playing softball, these warm ups would include swinging motions and training your wrists for pitching and throwing.

What happens then is that your body becomes actually prepared for the tasks that you need it to perform. Thats unlike static stretches that are directionless in terms of what it does to your body.

And when you do the same activities youre going to do on the field, you will be more mentally focused for the task at hand. Its a lot easier for you to imagine yourself come game time when you perform softball-specific warm ups, than when you perform static stretches.

4.Softball-specific dynamic warm ups lessen chances of injury. Because youre warming up the muscles youre going to use in the game, there will be fewer occurrences of these muscles getting pulled, which could result to more serious injuries. Couple that with strength and conditioning exercises, then you will protect your body from injuries better.

There you have it, my softball training tips on the benefits of dynamic warm ups. I havent gone into full detail here, but what Ive shared is enough to show you why you too should perform dynamic warm ups, instead of doing the same old static stretches.
