subject: Table Indexes Inaccessible Post Mdb File Corruption [print this page]

An index, as the name suggests, allows the user to search and sort records easily and quickly. The same functioning is performed by a 'Table Index', when it is used in MS Access database. Indexes in Access database can be created either on the bases of multiple fields or on the bases of single field. To create index on either of the fields, the user needs to make changes in the 'design view' of the table. Corruption in MS Access database can damage these table indexes and make the data saved in them inaccessible. In such situations, the user is unable to perform fast sorting or searching. To overcome such issues, the user needs to create all the indexes again. However, if the number of indexes is too large or the user does not remember the exact indexes, then s/he needs to restore database from an updated backup. But, in case the backup file contains incomplete information, then the user needs to use an effective third-party access recovery application.

The above scenario can be explained with the help of a real-time situation wherein you create 100 tables, each containing single-field index. However, your database was working fine, till one day when it encountered an unexpected system shutdown. After this incident, the database got corrupted, and so did the table indexes.

Cause:

Improper/unexpected system shutdown is one of the biggest cause of MS Access database corruption.

Solution:

To resolve the above issue and to access the database records, you will need to use an inbuilt repair utility named 'Compact and Repair'. To use this utility, you will need to take below mentioned steps:

1.Click on 'Tools' option.

2.Select 'Compact and Repair Database' feature.

3.Now, select 'Database to Compact From feature, and choose 'Compact'.

4.Wait for the repair process to finish.

5.Store the repaired database at your specified destination.

In most cases of database corruption, the above steps allow you to repair your database. However, in case database corruption persists and the table indexes remain corrupt, then you will need to opt for a safe, yet powerful MDB File Repair application. Such access database recovery tools use advanced algorithms to repair your MDB file, irrespective of the cause of its damage.
