subject: How To Clean Contact Lenses [print this page] With the winter season in full swing, the flu season is upon us. Keep yourself healthy this year by staying as clean as possible. One often overlooked aspect of cleanliness if eye care.
If you wear glasses, keep them clean buy soaking the lenses overnight in water and cleaning them gently with soft fabric.
If you wear contact lenses, like Biofinity, ClearSight or Vertex you should remove them from your eyes every night and place them in their appropriate containers with contact solution, which removed attached dust and grime. Even the smallest particle of dust trapped between your contact lens and your eye can scratch your eye and leave the door open for infection. Likewise, many viruses can enter the body through the eye. It is suggested that you not use towels or pillows belonging to other people for just this reason.
After you have soaked your contacts through the night, you should still use additional (fresh) contact solution in the morning to rinse the lenses and remove any remaining particles. Wash your hands thoroughly and then drop the contact lens into the palm of your hand. Squirt contact solution into your palm and rotate your wrist so that the solution covers the entire lens. Use your opposite index finger to touch the exterior of the lens and examine it to ensure there are no lingering particles. Many people squirt more solution onto the lens at this point to make putting it in the eye easier. Once in your eye, look in all directions and be mindful of even the slightest scratching feeling. If you feel discomfort take out the lens and do the entire process again.
