FarmVille is a real-time farm simulation game developed by Zynga, available as an application on the social networking website Facebook. The game allows members of Facebook to manage a virtual farm by planting, growing and harvesting virtual crops, trees, and livestock. Since its launch in June 2009, FarmVille has become the most popular game on Facebook and any other social networking site.
Recently, every time I log onto my Facebook account theres two or three new updates about my friends achieving something or another in FarmVille. For those of you who dont know, FarmVille is a game on Facebook that puts the player into the life of a farmer. You start out with a few coins, a small plot of land, and the dream of building a farm. The first thing you see is a few plants that need to be harvested. So you use your little farmer to harvest the fruit or vegetables and you get paid for it. The ultimate goal of the game is to make as much money as possible and grow your farm into the biggest and best in the land. But this game isnt just about harvesting and planting corn and wheat all day!
For starters, FarmVille has almost every crop you can imagine. You can grow everything from strawberries to eggplants for a profit. You start the game with only a few options, but as your green thumb grows, so does the inventory of the market. More expensive crops have a higher cash yield, but also require more attention. Just like in the real world, if you dont watch your crops theyll wither and die! So make sure to check in daily!
You may be wondering what happens when youve filled up all your land. You buy more! As you collect coins from harvesting youll feel the need to expand, so just pop into the market and buy land as you see fit. But what do you do with all this new land? You can also cash in on any friends who play FarmVille. Every time your friend achieves an accomplishment youre rewarded with either an item or coins! And to repay the favour you can send them a gift. Choose from things like various trees, to odd animals, and even the occasional mystery prop. Whatever it is, your friends are sure to be happy youre their neighbour. FarmVille lets you add your Facebook friends as your neighbours in the game, so you can watch each others progress and compete!
The newest feature to FarmVille is the ability to customize what your farmer looks like. You can choose the gender, look, and colour of your avatar to fit you perfectly. So youll feel like youre actually on the farm!
With constant updates and free giveaways, FarmVille stays interesting. I found it addicting and half the time its the only reason I go onto Facebook. Its fun to compete against friends and check out their farms. And theres no better way to pick up a girl than giving her a fig tree! So give the farmers life a chance and try out FarmVille on Facebook. Youre sure to have as much fun as going on a hay ride!
Well, you know as they say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. For those of you know know FarmTown this game will seem VERY familiar. Like FarmTown you have a field where you can layout crops, buildings, trees and animals. You can also gift items to friends of yours. This game looks like its still in the process of being developed. As at the point of this review being written two the menus were non-functional.
So far, one of the main things that I like about this game which is a vast improvement over FarmTown is the ability to Que your actions. That is to say you can use the plow tool and select 10 different plots with it. Your farmer of course will run around trying to keep up, but basically you dont have to wait for them to finish before telling them the next thing you want them to do. This means that farm management takes alot less time. Of course if you dont have enough cash for everything youve told them to do they will attempt the action, complain about not having enough money and then move on to the next task.
Im still developing the overall numbers, but so far. the most profitable crop I have access to seems to be soybeans. Several other crops have come close, but either dont produce enough money or have the disadvantage of having a harvest time of less then 1 day. Now you might be thinking why is that a disadvantage?. It is a disadvantage because if they are not harvested in a timely manner they rot and you end up just wasting money. Certainly if you can stay on top of it youll make more off of strawberries. But a single lapse can ruin your whole farm if you arent careful (I already had this happen to me once).
Multi- Account Advantages
So far the primary advantages to having multiple accounts in this game, mirror those in FarmTown. Specifically they are as follows
* Free Trees/Animals You can gift yourself free items once per day. This saves you the trouble of actully purchasing any of these items you may have wanted. Provided of course that you are high enough level to gift the item in question. So far Orange Trees seem to be the best low level tree, but its hard to say until Ive had a chance to complete my analysis.
* Free Money each day Again, as with farmtown you can visit other farms. Upon doing so youll be given a task (raking leaves, chasing birds etc.) that upon completing youll pick up 15 coins for completing. Hardly worth having a multi-account for on its own.
