subject: New Homes In Ditton [print this page]

If you are looking for a new home in Kent, then the new homes Ditton has to offer are a good choice. Whether you are a big or small family, or just a couple looking for a brand new home, then Ditton is a lovely Parish village that is just 5 miles from Maidstone in Kent.

Ditton is bigger than most villages, and its first mention is in the Domesday Book with an entry dated as far back as 1086. At that time, the village had 36 dwellings. Now the population of Ditton has risen to approximately 6,000.

Nestled near Maidstone, Ditton is a large village in the County town of Kent. It is a long narrow Parish which is on both sides of the A20 in Kent. Its main residential area has been steadily developed since 1922, when Aylesford Paper Mill was established on the banks of the Medway, and it extends on both sides of the main road. The Parish has farmland to the South and Industry to the North.

The village also has a ford which is situated in a conservation area, as is the 15th Century Church, where there has been a minister since 980 AD. Ditton is a thriving village and is a very desirable place to live, being close to the villages of East Malling and West Malling, with far reaching views over to the South Downs.

A little fact which not many people know, is that Ditton hosts the annual World Custard Pie Throwing Championships which now attracts competitors from far outside Kent and even England. In 1984, the championship was taken back to Holland by a Dutch team who won the title from such teams as The Mudslingers and The Fantom Flan Flingers. The Championships are a highlight of the annual Ditton Fun Day which is held on the village recreation ground.
