subject: How To Keep Skunks Away From Your Property [print this page]

Have you seen skunks in your area? Have you seen them in your yard? If so, you surely want to know how to keep skunks away from your property. This is especially true if you have pets or young children.

Fortunately, there are some preventative steps you can take to make sure that skunks do not make themselves at home on your property.

Skunks love to live under front porches. If you have a front porch and have ever wondered how the smell of skunk has wandered into your home, they are probably living there. The front porch is a good place to start. You need to take a walk around the front porch and locate any openings. Skunks can fit through surprisingly small holes and openings. Secure any opening you find. If you are worried that a skunk may be sealed inside if you do so, call your local exterminator. They can check to see if there is a skunk under your home.

Get rid of any rock or wood piles. Skunks love piles like these. If your property has fallen trees, you should get rid of these as well. Clear any brush.

Mow down all tall grass and weeds. Do not allow a skunk to move around on your property easily. They like to be undetected. Make sure that when a skunk is on your property, it is exposed.

Remove dog food from your yard. Feed your pets indoors or in the garage. Dog or pet food scraps make an easy meal for a skunk. They will be back for more.

If you follow these steps, skunks will find an easier place to live.
