Quitting smoking has its benefits and they can be summarized into 3 categories. health benefits, financial benefits, and the social benefits. With a good understanding of these three things you will be less likely to give into the temptation of smoking when you are trying to quit. Many people associate smoking with some of the most serious illnesses including the top two killers like cancer and heart disease. After a person has quit smoking for about one year the persons risk of having a heart attack drops to about half of that when they were smoking. About fifteen years after a person quits smoking their risk is almost the same as someone who never has smoked. Around ten to fifteen years after some quits smoking that persons chance of getting lung cancer is only a small fraction higher then that of a person who have never smoked.

This has obvious benefits for smokers in the terms of saving money. There is also savings for the community. The cost of treating health problems that are caused by smoking run into the millions of dollars. There is also the saving money to be made by the smoker themselves. Cigarettes are not cheap. The average cost of a pack of cigarettes is about six dollars in the United States. And that is just for a pack of twenty. If you decide to quit smoking a twenty cigarettes a day habit would put right around two thousand dollars in your pocket. Could you imagine a two thousand dollar pay raise for the rest of your life?

Using the money you will save by not smoking for something special is a very strong motivation for many people to quit smoking. For example, you could calculate out exactly what you would spend on smokes. In a years time of not smoking you could have enough money to take your family out for a nice vacation get away for the holidays or something along those lines. Tell your family about your decision to quit and ask them for help to avoid the temptation.

Quitting cigarettes also has its social benefits. What kind of person want to kiss someone who tastes like a stale ashtray? Your clothes will no longer smell and you won't get disapproving looks when you light up in a public place. Society is changing whether we like it or not. Many people still remember that if you worked in an open office that it was very common to have a smog of smoke lingering about. Not anymore. Most if not all places of business have a smoking ban in public areas. almost everywhere now you cant even smoke in restaurants of movie theaters. Breaking these rules will cause you to have a very hefty fine.

The benefits of not smoking are uncountable, but there are still a lot of people who have yet to quit. If you are considering quitting the please go talk to your doctor for advise on the best way to quit for you.
