subject: Keeping Your Delicate Lingerie Looking Great [print this page]

If you have invested a good sum of money in fancy lingerie just to wear on special occasions, then you probably do not wear it that often. However, when you do wear it you want it to look nice and new just like the day it did when you purchased it. When you buy lingerie made from sheer, silky and delicate fabrics, you have to take care of them in between wearings if you want them to be kept undamaged.

Finely made fabrics can easily get snags. This is why you usually should not just throw them into a drawer with all of your more casual night wear. When you scratch through drawers looking for a particular item, you might snag these fragile fabrics with your fingernails, a bracelet or ring you might be wearing and even the hooks or clasps from other items can make marks or tears on your best things.

Keeping your most expensive and favorite lingerie put away separately from your other things is the best way to protect it. There are a few ways you might choose to do this just depending on which you prefer. The first option is to keep them in a thin gift box lined with tissue paper. If it is a lingerie item that can be gently folded or left fully flat, this will help keep it from getting damaged in any way and should also help keep down wrinkling.

You might also consider hanging your lingerie on satin covered hangers. Even if you do this, when they are in your closet they should be covered with a plastic bag of some sort because they can get damaged in your closet too. Hanging your lingerie is the best way to keep it from wrinkling.

It is often very difficult to clean and remove wrinkles from lingerie yourself without damaging it. Throwing it in a warm dryer might help to remove wrinkles, but do not over do it. Taking your delicate personal items to the cleaners can ensure that if damage is done there, your cleaners should be responsible. Many women choose to hand wash their lingerie and hang it to air dry. Always follow any washing instructions very carefully to ensure you do not fade, shrink or ruin the material the item it is made from. Nice lingerie can last for years and stay looking great if you care for it properly from the very beginning.
