Tyler Moeller may not be the first player you think of when analyzing a potential national championship roster for the Ohio State Buckeyes this season. However, as much as he may be able to contribute on the field, he may do more so with an inspiring story, a comeback from the grips of death, to return to good health and re join his team, pumping them up for the upcoming season.
Moeller was sucker punched in a Florida bar last year in July. This was no ordinary shot that you just get up and walk up from, maybe having a black eye. The blow left Moeller in critical condition, rushing him to an emergency room in a local Florida hospital. The way he fell and hit the ground after words, left Moeller with severe head trauma, his life, and career, in serious jeopardy. Moeller, however, would be able to make a recovery, although he was forced to sit out the entire 2009 campaign for the Rose Bowl champions.
He returned to the practice field in spring, playing safety and linebacker a bit, although he was not cleared to hit or be hit, at the time, still suffering the ill effects from the injury almost 8 months later. However, word has come down that Moeller is finally fully healed, and ready to take the field for Ohio State this upcoming season.
After all that he has been through, it is hard to see him being denied for a chance at a starting spot, or even a backup role that would have him see a lot of time on the field. After all that he went through, I would imagine he wants nothing more but to prove his worth on the field, and maybe take out some suppressed anger on opposing offensive players.
He is rumored to be potentially the starter at the Sam linebacker position, one that sees him in a lot of coverage. He has experience at both linebacker and safety making him perfect for the role. Even if he does not start he will be expected to contribute immediately. No matter what he does on the field, it will not be understated off the field. As if the Buckeyes did not need another reason to play with their all, Moeller's inspiration is sure to drive his teammates to lead him on the ultimate road to redemption, culminating in a national championship victory.
