Solar Panels And How They Work
Solar Panels And How They Work

We all have a vague idea that solar panels are what make solar power possible. However there is much more to solar panels than just this. There is a lot of information out there about what solar panels are and how they work exactly.

If we were to put it simply a solar panel is just a collection of solar cells or photovoltaic cells. These cells will all work as one in order to create power from solar energy. Solar panels use a process called photovoltaic or PV to convert light into energy.

Now that we know the very basics of what a solar panel is what are they made of? Solar panels are made of crystalline silicon and gallium arsenide. Crystalline silicon is used in many different industries while gallium arsenide is created especially for use in solar panels.

Many people may worry about the installation of their solar panels. However these panels are made with flexibility when it comes to installation options. You can place the panels on the roof of a house or on the ground using stand mounts. Of course when installing panels you should take into account where you live. In the northern hemisphere it is best to have the panels facing south in order to maximize the light exposure.

There is of course something else that you should remember when getting these solar panels for your home. A house will run off an alternating current instead of a direct current. However solar power will come in the form of direct current so an inverter will need to be installed in order to use the energy.

Solar panels are something that should be considered if you want to lower your carbon emissions. Of course it is a good idea to know how something works before you install it because it is always best to know more.
