Solve Internet Explorer 99% download problem

Q: I cannot download anything from Internet, not even a file attachment from my email. Everything stops at 99%. I was using Internet Download Manager earlier; but since it got expired, I am facing problem. Please help me understand and fix the problem. Is it due to problems on software, hardware, or internet connection?

A: There are many reasons leading to 99% download stop of Internet Explorer. Here we worked out two methods for your reference.

Method 1:

- Check if it was a Netload link. As is known to all, when the file is done transferring, Netload is known to not send a proper signal. It will make the download stop at 99%.

- Connection error caused the 99% download stop issue

If you're not downloading a Netload premium link, and you encounter this error, please try the below steps. To resolve this, here's what you should do:

- Ensure you're using IDM (Internet Download Manager)

- Pause the download if it hangs or stops at 99%

- Check your User Control Panel, and click on 'Show Downloads'

- Regenerate the link for the faulty download

- Copy the new link

- Replace the older link in IDM (Right Click -> Properties) with the new link, and resume your download

- Then your file will resume and the download will successfully complete

Method 2:

Check your IE8 settings. Open the Internet Options Settings dialog box, and switch to the tab "Advanced". Option to Check for Signatures on Download programs' is disabled, and Option to Check for Signatures on Download programs' is enabled by default.

First of all, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type 'regedit'.

Then, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerDownload]and right click on the String value 'CheckExeSignatures ' and select 'Modify'.

Finally set the value data as 'no'. In this way 'Check for Signatures on Download programs' is disabled. Select 'OK'. The procedure is accomplished.

Try to download and check if it is OK now.

Other reasons and methods:

1. IE download stops because Temporary Internet files folder is full, or the user doesn't have write permissions to the download file. Try to empty the folder where Internet Explorer stores temporary Internet files, or select another path to save the download file.

IE downloads are usually first stored in a folder named Temporary Internet Files, and then moved to the target position. The move' process may trigger anti-virus software to monitor the files. If download files are of big size, anti-virus software may need a long scanning time. Up till the scan is finished, the download can be completed. That is a possible reason why Internet Explorer downloads stop at 99%.

2. If there is still no effect, you are recommended to use System Repair Software. System repair tools are designed to fix errors of Internet Explorer. With those tools you can safely clean, repair and optimize the Internet Explorer registry with a few simple mouse clicks. By scanning your browser regularly and fixing errors, your IE browser should not only be more stable but get improved on the aspect of your IE browser performance.
