subject: Closet Reorganization [print this page]

Many people have closets that are packed full of junk and completely disorganized. These spaces need help or else they will continue to act as the dumping station for your home - you know - where you cram all the extra things that you don't have a proper place for. Learn how you can get this closet in better shape.

The first thing that you need to do is to get everything out of your closet. This is to ensure that you can see exactly what you have in it and get an idea of the space that you are working with. Trying to organize a closet in pieces is not a strategy that works too well.

Once it is empty, clean up the closet. There will be lots of dust and possibly spider webs in it. Get this out since it is already empty and it is the only time that you can get it clean like this.

Go through everything in your closet and start to throw things away or stack items away to donate somewhere. Generally, if you have not used the item in the last year, you probably are not going to ever use it again. Most of the time, you can clear out quite a bit of stuff, making it easier to organize everything.

Next, consider adding in some functionality. You may need to put in extra shelving, more places for hangers, and even door closet organizing products. This will give you more options when you put your items back into your closet.

Come up with an organizational system that you can follow. Get some bins, new hangers, and other things that will maximize the space and make it easier to use. If you have many pairs of shoes, find a product that will simplify this problem and keep them stored away with easy access that you can get to without problems.

This project is going to take some effort, but in the end, a clean and organized closet makes it worthwhile.
