subject: Modern Ideas To Create More Living Space At Your House [print this page]

In most of the houses, lack of space can be the biggest problem. This is the most common problem for the people living in UK because most of the houses are of small sizes, and apartments generally do not have much space. However, space is a basic requirement for everyone.

For instance, people used to consider the basement as a storage area. No one used to believe or was into decorating it into an additional space. Nowadays, it is either furnished as a guest house, a study room, a game room or a living area. It is certainly a contemporary idea and happens to make you self-sufficient in having a room that was devoid of any life. It helps you to create comfort for your own self as you would start noticing the house would start looking tidier than before.

The first and the foremost thing that can be done is to use the furniture that can serve multi-purposes. Use the furniture that allows storage capacity. You can use sofa-sleeper and futons, which can be used as a sofa and can be converted into a bed when required. Use the tables that have drawers or shelves in them. Similarly, use the bookcases that have shelves and bathroom storage units, which can be easily fitted under the sink.

Moreover, if you notice your corridor, what does it look like; A mere passage with some paintings on the side or maybe a side couch? If you contemplate a bit, it can be transformed as an additional space to your home.

Another method to add storage space in your house is to use the under-deck-ceiling. You can add wooden or metal panels under the deck and to use it as a storage place. You can use the do-it-yourself under-deck-ceiling under your existing patio, or you can build a new one as an extension into your backyard and use it as a sitting space by putting up chairs or sofas and underneath. You can install the panels of under-deck-ceiling, which will allow you to have more storage.

Also, if you notice your attic, you would observe and feel the urge to label it as mere trashy area. Well, would you like to have such an area as part of your home? Definitely not! So, why not clean up the mess and set up some tidy furniture to make it a living corner. In this way, the entire home would not look congested when some guests arrive in large numbers. You shall be able to seat them and yourself properly as well.

Similarly, if you have an attic, you can do the same thing with it. These two places, the basement and the attic, normally go wasted. Therefore, it is better to utilize them and convert them into living areas.

Another thing, which is very common these days, is the use of garden buildings. If you have a small backyard or a small garden, you can make a small garden building in the garden and link it to the rest of your home with a pathway etc. This garden building can be a gazebo, garden shed, tool shed, summerhouse, playroom, guestroom or a garden office. Thus, if you want to add more space in your homes, you can employ any of these methods.
